INFOLAC Web Contest:
Educational Portals in Latin America and Caribbean

Results INFOLAC Web Contest

 

The United Nations Education, Science and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), through its Regional Information and Communication (ORCILAC-Quito) and Education (OREALC-Santiago) Offices, will hold a contest for the best educational portals in the region.

Contest Base

The three best educational Web portals in Latin America will be awarded based on requirements indicated in this contest.

Requirements

The proposed Web portals should follow the content guidelines, interactivity, format and accessibility indicated below:

Contents: Contents should contain useful, updated and relevant information on related actors in education, at the national, regional and/or local levels and/or at the educational level.

Interactivity: Portals should, as a minimum requirement, allow its users to “download” in various formats: texts, presentations, and images without cost or at a cost that is accessible for teachers in the classroom. Likewise, they should also enable, as a minimum, users to communicate with the Webmaster or system administrator.

Format: The format should be clear and organized with intuitive navigation maps. Also, the aesthetic in its presentation should be considered, denoting originality, care and Latin-American roots.

Accessibility: The sites should be accessible anytime and anywhere, including computers with much older operating systems and slower Internet access speeds. Furthermore, they should show a record of updates or the possibility of being frequently updated in the future. For those who already have sites, institutions, organizations, or personas who maintain the site must be indicated.

Institutional Requirements for Site Participants

The Web portal should be produced by a registered public or private institution in any of the Latin-American and Caribbean countries, regardless of where the website is hosted.

Websites produced by institutions involved in the judging of sites are ineligible in this contest.

Inscription and Presentation Period

Websites should be entered into the contest between June 10 and October 15, 2004. Contest entries can only be done online on the INFOLAC website by filling out the form at http://infolac.ucol.mx/premioeducacion.

Entries should be done by the coordinator or team leader of the participating website, or by the representative of the institution.

Judging

The panel of judges will be composed of a team of multidisciplinary professionals who are selected by the Organizing Committee of the Contest. The judges will be announced beforehand on the official site as well as other announcements.

Decision

The final decision will be announced January 15 2005.

Awards

The awards consist of: USD 4000 for first place, USD 2000 for second place, and USD 1000 for third place. In addition, a special prize will be given to the best webpage dedicated to training instructors, which consists of USD 1000. There will be special recognition for participating members in the team with the winning website, as well as the use of a logo or banner that will distinguish the winning sites until the next contest.

The panel of judges will give special recognitions if it is considered necessary.

Terms of Participation

Those who participate in this contest are subject to the acceptance of the present terms. Terms not specified here will be determined by the panel of judges whose final decisions are not subject to appeal.
